Porsche Design Expands Chronograph 1 Line with New Leather Strap Options
Automotive leather makes its way to the wrist
Since its relaunch in recent years, Porsche Design's Chronograph 1 has remained closely tied to the aesthetic codes established by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in the 1970s. Now, the brand, which recently opened a new manufactory in Grenchen, is broadening the appeal of two permanent collection models — the Chronograph 1 – All Black Numbered Edition and the Chronograph 1 – All Titanium Numbered Edition — by introducing a new series of leather strap options inspired directly by Porsche sports car interiors.
Four colors are available: Black, Guards Red, Classic Cognac, and Dark Night Blue
Porsche DesignAvailable from June 2026, the new straps are offered in four classic Porsche colors: Black, Guards Red, Classic Cognac, and Dark Night Blue. Until now, both watches were sold exclusively on titanium bracelets matched to their respective case finishes.
The new straps are produced using the same leather and yarn employed in Porsche vehicle interiors, reinforcing the close connection between the company’s automotive and watchmaking divisions. Matching tonal stitching further emphasizes the clean, functional aesthetic associated with the Chronograph 1 collection.

Porsche DesignPorsche Design has also developed an unusual clasp construction for the straps. While the exterior features a traditional pin buckle appearance, the system conceals an integrated butterfly clasp with pushers beneath the leather. The solution allows the strap length to remain fixed once adjusted, reducing wear on the leather while making the watch easier to put on and remove.
Like the titanium bracelets introduced during the 2022 relaunch of the Chronograph 1, the leather straps incorporate a tool-free quick-change mechanism, allowing owners to swap between bracelet and strap configurations within seconds.
A Design Rooted In The Porsche 911
The Chronograph 1 traces its origins back to 1972, when F. A. Porsche translated the design principles of the Porsche 911 into a wristwatch. Inspired by the dashboard instrumentation of the sports car, the original Chronograph I became the first fully black wristwatch, establishing a design language that would become one of the defining aesthetics of modern sports chronographs. Three years later, Porsche Design introduced an uncoated stainless steel variant, pairing the matte black dial with a brushed metal case. Both concepts have since returned as contemporary reinterpretations crafted from lightweight titanium.
The current Chronograph 1 – All Black Numbered Edition evolved from the 2022 Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition and is powered by the COSC-certified Porsche Design Caliber Werk 01.140 automatic chronograph movement. Production is limited to a maximum of 1,000 numbered examples annually.
Chronograph 1 – All Titanium Numbered Edition
Porsche DesignSimilarly, the Chronograph 1 – All Titanium Numbered Edition continues the design direction introduced with the 2025 Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition, featuring an uncoated glass bead-blasted titanium case and a production cap of 1,000 pieces per year.
Both models feature a 40.8mm titanium case with sapphire crystals front and back, 100 meters of water resistance, and a dial layout faithful to the original design, including day-date indication, tri-compax chronograph counters, and high-contrast white hands and numerals against a matte black background. Inside beats the Porsche Design Caliber WERK 01.140 automatic chronograph movement with COSC certification, operating at 4 Hz and offering a 48-hour power reserve.
The Chronograph 1 – All Black Numbered Edition with leather strap is priced at €6,950 or approximately $8,096, while the Chronograph 1 – All Titanium Numbered Edition with leather strap is priced at €6,450 or respectively $7,514.
