As the United States prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its independence, Zenith is marking the occasion with two commemorative chronographs rooted in one of the manufacture’s most historically significant models. The new Chronomaster Revival A384 – Liberty II Editions build upon the success of the original Liberty release for North America, while also highlighting the deeper historical connection between Zenith founder Georges Favre-Jacot and the industrial innovations he encountered during his travels to the United States in the 19th century. That transatlantic influence proved pivotal in shaping young Favre-Jacot’s vision for what would become later a fully integrated Swiss watch manufacture. At a time when the traditional établissage system dominated Swiss watchmaking, he adopted the efficiency and centralized production methods he observed in America, bringing every stage of watchmaking under one roof at the brand's site in Le Locle.

A Patriotic Take on the A384

Both Liberty II models are based on the celebrated A384 chronograph from 1969, recreated with the original 37mm tonneau-shaped case proportions that helped define the early El Primero era. The watches feature a white lacquered dial paired with Zenith’s signature blue chronograph counters and the date between 4 and 5 o'clock, while several bold details reference the anniversary being celebrated. Most striking is the central chronograph seconds hand, which incorporates 13 alternating red and white stripes inspired by the American flag and symbolizing the original colonies. Additional red accents appear on the tachymeter scale on the flange, where the “250” is highlighted, as well as on the “4” of the date wheel are nodding to the year 1776. The sapphire case back is engraved with “AMERICA 250th ANNIVERSARY.” Zenith offers the commemorative chronograph in two distinct executions. The first comes in stainless steel and is limited to 250 pieces, directly referencing the anniversary year. The second adopts a more bold approach with a forged carbon case limited to just 25 examples.

Inside both watches beats the El Primero 400 automatic chronograph caliber, a direct descendant of the groundbreaking high-frequency movement introduced by Zenith in 1969 as the world’s first automatic integrated chronograph. Operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz), the movement allows timing precision to one-tenth of a second while delivering a 50-hour power reserve.

The steel edition is paired with Zenith’s historically inspired “Gay Frères” ladder bracelet, faithful to the bracelet style fitted to many original A384 models, while an additional blue Cordura-effect rubber strap is included for a sportier alternative. The forged carbon version is delivered exclusively on the blue Cordura-effect strap.
