Thirty Years of Listening Closely: Parmigiani Fleurier Introduces the Carillon Tourbillon
Poised as a focus on technical substance over spectacle
Thirty years ago, Michel Parmigiani and the Sandoz Family Foundation founded Parmigiani Fleurier not around a design concept, but around a body of knowledge accumulated over decades of restoring historic timepieces. That origin story, understanding before creating, remains one of the brand's defining characteristic today. To mark its 30th anniversary, the independent Swiss manufacture introduces the Carillon Tourbillon, a grande complication in white gold with a striking hand-hammered dial in Morning Blue that is limited to just five pieces.

Parmigiani FleurierThe watch draws direct inspiration from a Perrin Frères pocket watch dating to the early 19th century, a piece that Michel Parmigiani encountered through his work on the Maurice-Yves Sandoz collection. That access to historical constructions by makers such as Breguet, Jaquet-Droz and Perrin Frères gave Parmigiani an unusually deep understanding of acoustic mechanisms and chiming architecture. A knowledge that now finds a sophisticated expression in the Carillon Tourbillon.
Caliber PF950
Parmigiani FleurierAt the center of the watch is the entirely in-house developed hand-wound caliber PF950, comprising 456 components and measuring just 7.15mm in height. Beautifully hand-finished, the movement incorporates a minute repeater with carillon striking mechanism, four gongs, an integrated centrifugal governor and a 60-second tourbillon. The striking train produces a four-voice chime sequence with distinct tonal registers for hours, quarter hours and minutes, while the centrifugal governor ensures a consistent strike rate free of acceleration or delay.

Parmigiani FleurierThe energy architecture deserves particular attention. Two stacked mainspring barrels power the watch independently: one dedicated to the timekeeping function alone, delivering a remarkable power reserve of at least ten days despite the complexity of the striking complication; the second reserved exclusively for the striking train, which is only wound when the minute repeater is activated. This arrangement prevents any interference with the going train and ensures consistent sound quality across every strike. The tourbillon and power reserve display have been deliberately positioned on the movement side to preserve the architectural calm of the dial.

Parmigiani FleurierLike the hammers the four serpentine gongs can be seen on the dial side. The openly structured case back make the mechanics of the striking sequence, the hammer choreography, energy flow and resonance behavior, directly legible to the observer.

The 41.6mm white gold case features vertical fluting inspired by the brand's Armoriale collection, a design choice made with acoustic projection in mind. The repeater slide, integrated into the case flank, activates the striking train through a direct mechanical connection. The hand-hammered Morning Blue white gold dial sits beneath a box-shaped sapphire crystal, completing a composition that is as visually considered as it is technically complex. Pricing is marked at CHF 490,000 or approximately $536,416 when converted to USD.
